Before his career at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® began, Joshua was working for a company contracted by an energy corporation, where he installed light bulbs and showerheads in low income housing.
When IT positions opened up at that company, he was asked to step in based on his understanding of what was going on with the company. He continued in the IT role where he learned the ropes for three years, and began an associate’s degree program to work toward a degree.
When it came time for Joshua to find a new career, he saw what TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® was about, and it instantly stood out.
“I heard great reviews from several people I knew already worked here, each of them sharing they enjoyed the culture and environment of the company,” Joshua said. “I was told TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® is a company that stood behind their employees, and had a strong moral compass. Both of those qualities are things I feel are important to look for when applying for a position.”
Joshua applied for the after-hours response center (AHRC), and was hired in December of 2013. In April of 2014, he applied and was accepted for the internship position with the IT department at the corporate office. The internship continued, and soon he was offered a full-time position in the IT department as a desktop administrator. Winter of 2016, he was promoted to desktop administration team lead.
“Above everything I enjoy about this position, I feel my favorite thing is the opportunity,” Joshua said. “Everything about my journey with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® bounces back to an opportunity to prove my resolve. My current position has given me a chance to be involved in projects I would have never been a part of anywhere else, and to show myself that I am capable of greater things.”
The IT team at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® is a diverse and large department, full of people from varying backgrounds, which was one of the first things that stood out to Joshua after he started the job.
“We have a large department, but the scope of the work that is produced is amazing. Even though we are all listed as the IT department, there are many smaller groups within,” Joshua said. “I am truly proud to be a part of the many different systems and environments represented by a group of people that are just as diverse.”
Joshua is surprised by how much he has enjoyed TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®; he views his employment as a career, not a job.
“Honestly, I believe it was the relief that I could enjoy what I do for a living,” Joshua said. “Looking back at what I like most about my current job, the previous ‘jobs’ I have held were more like stepping stones with very steep sides that helped my family and I get by. I enjoy the confidence in saying I’m in a career as an IT professional.”
When he’s not at work, Joshua has been going to school full-time, having recently completed his associate’s degree in cyber security and networking, and he’ll begin pursuing his bachelor’s degree fall 2016. He also has three boys, and likes taking trips to his family cabin in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and spending time outdoors.
Chasing goals never stops for Joshua, and the culture of TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® allows him to keep pursing the things important to him in life.
“Like I have previously stated, the opportunity to grow personally and professionally within the company is exciting,” Joshua said. “Without my supervisors and the culture of TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® in general, it would have been very difficult to achieve my goals somewhere else. I am grateful to be able to work for such a great company.”
