Driver

For some people, the best kind of work is active work. For Joe, a driver at the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Peoria, Ill., location, this is what he prefers, and it’s why he’s such a good fit as a TWO MEN AND A TRUCK driver.

“The main thing I love about the job is just the physical aspect of it,” Joe said. “I’m not the type of person who can just sit behind a desk and be on a computer all day. I love being out there, I love doing all of the physical moving, I love meeting all of the new people, going to all of the different places, seeing all of the different types of houses people have – it’s just a whole new experience when you actually work here, go out, and see all you can see.”

Joe’s always moving, and that’s the way he likes it. He found TWO MEN AND A TRUCK because his brother was working at the franchise and recommended it.

He didn’t need much more convincing than what his brother told him and soon enough, he was on the trucks helping move customers forward.

“I just love coming in and interacting with the guys that I work with because in our store, all of us who are on the trucks, it feels like we have a special bond,” Joe said. “We always make sure everybody is good, we do what we have to do to make sure everybody is taken care of, and we try to get everybody home and out of here at an early time so they’re ready for the next day.”

Joe’s favorite aspects of the job are just the team bonding between the frontline staff and also being able to put a smile on the faces of customers when they help move them.

“I just like to do my best and make sure my customers are happy by the time I leave their house,” he said.

He’s unsure how much longer he’ll stay on the trucks, admitting that sometimes he wonders if he’s getting too old for the job. The opportunities to move up are there but for now, he’s enjoying his time out and about with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK.

“There’s so many great opportunities here,” Joe said. “I mean, I started off as a mover and now I’m a driver, and I’ve been here long enough that if I wanted to, I could move up to management. But at the same time, I don’t want to. I like being on the trucks.”

I chose to enroll in the Managers Moving Forward Program after seeing a presentation at Annual Meeting. I saw some of the focus areas were weaknesses of mine, and I figured it would be beneficial to address those. The experience has been awesome, and all of the content has led to processes I can implement at my franchise to make it better. If you aren’t growing, you’re dying, and I’d prefer the former over the latter!

The thing that attracted me most to the job was just the team environment, I’ve grown up playing sports my whole life, so when I got there and met everyone, I saw the way they treated the guys, how all the guys were team-based like family, and that was just something that really attracted me and kept me here. I quit my other job to come here because I saw the career growth and advancement that was open to movers and drivers.
