Mary Ellen’s Moving People Forward Scholarship helps TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchise members move forward in their career

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Founder, Mary Ellen Sheets, was a single mother helping her two sons start a local moving business in Lansing, Mich., to make some extra spending cash.

Their family had zero experience running a business, but used hard work, quality moving services, and a reliance on word of mouth within the Lansing community to grow their operation. Eventually, they were able to expand into a franchised business model, and Mary Ellen began helping countless others achieve their dream of business ownership with the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK brand.

Over 40 years later, this mindset still lives on through the Mary Ellen’s Moving People Forward scholarship program, a six-month course for franchise managers in the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK system to work through everything they need to know about opening a franchise, from creating a business plan to completing educational courses and pitching their strategy to TWO MEN AND A TRUCK leadership.

This program has been in place for a decade now, and we’ve had multiple people complete it and go on to become franchisees within our brand, helping us to deliver on our mission of moving our own people forward.

It’s one of the many ways we promote growth from within at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchises everywhere, and the countless success stories speak for themselves.

I’m always seeking out new opportunities to help grow our brand, help others, learn, and sharpen my skill set. The Scholarship Program was the perfect opportunity for me to accomplish these things. I chose to enroll in the Managers Moving Forward Program after seeing a presentation at Annual Meeting. I saw some of the focus areas were weaknesses of mine, and I figured it would be beneficial to address those. The experience has been awesome, and all of the content has led to processes I can implement at my franchise to make it better. If you aren’t growing, you’re dying, and I’d prefer the former over the latter!
