The holiday season and new year celebrations have passed us by and now we’re starting to settle into 2025.
The new year is a chance for new possibilities, and it’s a great time to regroup and refocus on your personal and professional goals in life as you figure out where you’re at and where you want to be. However, as many of us know, setting goals and acting on them is much easier said than done, and it takes a lot of planning, commitment, and work to build out a list of goals and see them all the way through for 12 months.
At TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, we’re huge advocates of goal setting, and our team members – both at our Michigan Support Center and franchises – actively participate in goal setting to improve as individuals.
What’s the best way to get started with the process of goal setting? Here are the five best tips we have come up with!
Write out your goals
This simple first step can go a long way in the process of goal setting and can get you started on the right foot. Writing out each goal by hand – whether it’s in a journal or on a whiteboard – can help you visualize what your goals are and what you’re trying to accomplish.
Make a list of checkpoints to follow
Goal setting requires patience, and you’re not going to achieve every goal you set for yourself right away. Building out a roadmap with different checkpoints can help break things into smaller, more manageable pieces as you work throughout the year. You can follow your progress as you go and see what you are succeeding at and what you still need to work on!
Share your goals with those closest to you
A strong support system can do wonders for those looking to achieve personal and professional goals. Sharing your list of goals with those closest to you can provide an extra voice of encouragement in your corner.
Evaluate yourself as you go
Much like the tip about making checkpoints, you’ll want to take time throughout this process to review and assess yourself and where you currently stand. Are you doing everything you need to do? Could you make improvements? Do you need to scale back in certain areas? This kind of reflection will help you regroup and stay on track as you chase your 2025 goals.
Once your goals are achieved, it’s time to celebrate
There’s no sense in setting a list of goals for yourself in 2025 if you’re not going to celebrate when you achieve them! Be sure to do something to reward yourself – whether it’s gathering with friends or buying yourself a treat – to recognize the hard work you have put in.
