Veterans find new career opportunities with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchise jobs

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® has proudly been a home for veterans looking for work after their time in the military, and for nearly 40 years, these brave men and women have found new opportunities at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchises nationwide!

From movers and drivers to management, franchisees, and even Michigan Support Center team members – we’re proud to welcome veterans at all levels of the brand, representing us in a positive way and continuing to move people forward. Regardless of the role, many have found the transition from life in the military to TWO MEN AND A TRUCK seamless due to the team-oriented environment and company structure.

“I found TWO MEN AND A TRUCK after being unemployed for almost year, so I was eager to work, and I started in December of 2009, “said Chad Alstad, a United States Marine Corps veteran and the current general manager for multiple TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchises in Washington. “I worked my way up in the company from driver to general manager. My favorite part about working here is the employees and my coworkers. It truly feels like a family around here.”

While the gap between Alstad’s time in the Marines and his start at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK was significant, there were skills and traits he learned during his time in the Marines that have served him well as he worked his way up to a management role.

“Being a USMC veteran, most – if not all – of those traits always stick with you,” Alstad said. “There are many similarities between that and working at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK. The management team is a prime example of a ‘chain of command’. Initiative, endurance, enthusiasm – all of these mirror traits that are expected in the marines and at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK.”

Daniel McDuffie – a former Aerospace Ground Equipment Journeyman in the United States Air Force – had a similar situation to Alstad where he was looking for work and stumbled onto TWO MEN AND A TRUCK. He began applying for jobs after moving back to his hometown, and TWO MEN AND A TRUCK was the first company to call back.

Nearly a year later, McDuffie is now the operations manager for the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Florence, South Carolina franchise, and he’s found a home in this new role where he’s enjoying his job and team.

“My favorite parts about working for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK are seeing customers relieved after a smooth move and the satisfaction of a job well done,” McDuffie said. “The team-oriented environment is something that I’m glad still exists in this job, because teamwork is a big thing in the military.”

Both Alstad and McDuffie took entirely different paths during their time serving this country, but have found themselves in similar situations now that they’re with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, applying skills they’ve picked up along the way to step into leadership positions within their franchises.

Their success is evident, and the hard work has clearly paid off. When asked why they would recommend a TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchise job to fellow veterans, each had a different but important take on the question, providing some interesting perspective to veterans who are interested in working for the Movers Who Care®.

“A lot of the core values at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK align well with the core values former military members were taught, and that’s something I learned as a vet that is very important to have and instill in others,” McDuffie said. “Integrity, service before self, and excellence in all we do.”

For Alstad, he makes sure to get out and let other veterans know about what the job can offer.

“I have visited my local USMC recruiting stations in the past, and I encourage them to apply due to the nature of recruiting,” Alstad said. “I get the opportunity to let them know I’ll be there for them when they transition to civilian life after their active duty comes to an end. Some Marines have a tough time with this transition, and our work is ideal for helping with this by letting them get to work with a smaller group of people who are much like the tight-knit military life. They can work for us while they use their GI Bill for college to broaden their opportunities.”
